Tips to Maximize Your Success When Applying to LMIA Employers
Tailor your résumé and cover letter to Canadian standards
Use a clear, job-specific format that highlights your NOC-related skills, measurable achievements, and qualifications that match the employer’s LMIA-approved role.
Verify the LMIA status on the job posting
Differentiate between “LMIA Approved/Positive LMIA Issued” and “LMIA Requested/Pending.”
An employer with a positive LMIA decision is significantly more reliable and increases the likelihood of a successful work permit.
Confirm the employer’s compliance history
Use official government resources to check whether the employer is in good standing.
Employers with past non-compliance, suspensions, or administrative monetary penalties (AMPs) should be avoided.
Apply only through legitimate recruitment channels
Use platforms such as Job Bank Canada, Indeed Canada, and LinkedIn.
Avoid employers or recruiters who request upfront payments, “processing fees,” or LMIA charges this is illegal.
Keep thorough documentation
Maintain copies of:
The job offer letter
The LMIA number or confirmation letter
Employer contact details
Any communication related to duties, wages, and conditions
This is crucial for both the work permit application and future verification.
Be prepared to respond quickly
LMIA-supported roles often fill rapidly once posted.
Set job alerts for keywords like “LMIA available,” “Visa sponsorship,” “Positive LMIA,” and your NOC code.

LMIA Employers
Welcome to BA Immigration, your trusted resource for understanding and navigating the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) landscape across Canada’s provinces and territories.
The LMIA framework consists of two major components:
(1) The Canadian employers seeking authorization to hire foreign workers, and
(2) The foreign nationals applying to work for these employers.
A key requirement of the LMIA process is that employers must demonstrate genuine efforts to recruit Canadians and permanent residents before extending an offer to a foreign worker. If you wish to fully understand LMIA rules, employer obligations, and worker eligibility, we strongly recommend reviewing our Comprehensive Guide to LMIAs in Canada, along with our expert tips on How to Find LMIA-Approved Jobs in Canada.
